The bad businesses use family and friends to try to boost their business, so they put them online on apps. like Nextdoor. 
Why would they do this? So they don't have to fund them or hear about why they can't get a regular job. The answer most of the time comes from, because they are lazy, do terrible work, don't show and are addicted to drugs and alcohol. 
These very people referring them, do not care if they do a terrible job. They do not care if you are taken advantage of and so on. All they care about is, getting that kind of person off their back. If they are taking advantage of someone else, their thought is, at least it isn't me this time. 
Please, do your research, even though a company was referred! Never give money down, no matter what! And make sure you google, bing, yelp, organic search, BBB, check with state of Colorado SOS to make sure they are legit. And the final thing that most basement dwellers, people who should not be in business, MAKE SURE THEY HAVE VALID BUSINESS INSURANCE! This last one is the game changer, because we are noticing over 75% to 80% of businesses are letting their insurance go or lapsing on payment.
We have found Nextdoor is 1 of those BAD apps.. They are allowing the bad characters on it, which leads to the people who are referring them. This app. also allows criminals on, so they can spy their neighbors, all for them to become the their next victim. Don't trust Nextdoor anymore, as it has become a worthless app. 
Know before you spend your hard earned money on 1 of those "not so good companies"...

Exterior paint needs at least 3-4 weeks to properly dry completely (not just the outer surface - dry to touch). 
Once the weather changes and the 1st freeze begins, it is highly advisable to put exterior painting off until spring. 
Freezing the cure time, breaks down the longevity of a paint job. This means instead of last 7 - 10 years, it will only last 2-3 years. Do not believe the starving painter/company telling you it doesn't matter, just so they can earn your money! Read the labels and google it. Don't make this mistake and pay more in the long run, just to get your exterior painted when it's the winter months. And Now You Know!!!

In the service industry, companies have been adding pro to their name, even though a lot of these companies know nothing about the industry they are getting into. 
If you hire a company like a professional painting company, you expect that you are getting a "Pro" in the 1st place, but in this industry, you can give someone a brush and roller and then call them a pro without any training. These types of companies do not care, as they want to see profit margins only. 
These WOW companies hiring homeless painters and saying their company is a 1 day paint job guaranteed  (not a bad idea, if they would just train the workers, plus not many paint jobs should be done in 1 day, regardless) and druggies, this is leaving customers dumbfounded and leaving them feeling ripped-off, once they accidentally hire them. 
Painting does not need to be Innovated, as if it is done "right", there is no need to perfect the industry. 
If a painting company is in your area and is one of the big companies, then most likely they cannot find a professional painters and will settle for a so-called painter, in hope they will learn as they go, especially without training. This means the customer will be the one to pay the price for a bad job in the end. 
If you want a Sorta-Pro company to do your painting, then you have a better chance painting your project yourself.

Also check the BBB, Ripp-off report and check referrals thoroughly, before committing to a company.
Last but not least, DO NOT ever give money down, in these types of service businesses, as this becomes the eye opener to a company that should not be in business in the 1st place.

1st and foremost, do your homework before you hire and sign a contract - check reviews online (Yelp, BBB, Rip-off report, etc.) and call some references. 
Never, give money down, before your projects starts. This is the 1st step to take, so you do not get taken advantage of.
It is best to sign a contract and hire a company that needs no money down, paid upon completion!
If a company "needs" money down, then do not give any down payment, until the day they start and specially do not give anymore then what the material costs. Doing your homework, instead of hiring blindly, will save you tons of headaches and money.

Most of our competition use false sales techniques! They might claim their warranty is the best offered. It sounds way to good to be true, then it usually is. They actually lie about it, to gain your trust and your business. Check Yelp reviews and BBB, before hiring. This will help you understand what kind of business practices, they do.

If the price you received from one company, is way cheaper than the other couple bids you have received, there's usually something wrong and should raise a red flag. If a company is undercutting their competition, then they are undercutting their quality too and that is the kind of job you will get!

Use the #1 rule to start out with - 1st impressions is the best way to start. Is the salesman to pushy? Do they dress the part (a paint company that comes to an estimate in a business suite, doesn't match the industry norm. That is like going to court with painter clothes on)? Does their presentation match what they are saying and if yes, then do your homework after they leave, to back up those claims and to save yourself some headaches.

Never give money down, in a service type of business. If a company can not afford to front the job, then they should not be in business in the 1st place.


No matter what, research the company that you decide to hire, before you sign a contract. If you google a company, yelp and check the BBB, you normally can see what their business practices are. You will save yourself a major hassle from the get go.
